LOGGING ONTO NETWARE from a Mac no longer means second-class access to corporate information. NetWare Client for Mac OS brings users and administrators into parity with their PC-using colleagues. And it's free.
The client software begins with native IPX support: Using a new interface, the NetWare Directory Browser, Mac users can see the entire network, not just servers that have the NetWare for Macintosh NLM (NetWare Loadable Module) installed. Mac users also have access to NetWare Directory Services (NDS), which in turn allows them to connect with NetWare once, and have full access to servers, printers, and users across the network.
Other new features include the ability to manage multiple NetWare server activities from a single Mac. In the past, a DOS-console application provided the only access to user-account maintenance, printer setup, and NLM installation and removal.
The NetWare for Macintosh NLM is no longer needed in NetWare 4.1 environments, although the new client software is compatible with NetWare 3.x servers. Users of NetWare 3.x gain little from installing the new client software, but it does allow managers to administer a server from their Macs.
